swiecie castle

As part of my masters’ thesis I conducted a survey of the Cellars of the Teutonic Castle in Świecie. Archival drawings were redrawn and used as a sketch to mark all hand measured dimensions. All of the drawings were later amended & drawn by hand to show the real sizes and shape of this historical building. Final stage was drawing all the vertical and horizontal sections in AutoCAD 2D. This detailed survey was then used to add all the construction transformations to show the result of my architectural research.

Inicially the scope of the research contained the whole castle ruins and first draft of survey was prepared accordingly. However the amount of the architecture discoveries was so extend that it forced me to focuse on cellars only.

The exploration bring to light previously unknown architectural history of the cellars and showed that the area had undergone much more complicated transformations over the years than it was earlier descripted in historical sources. As an addition this research made it also possible to formulate some conclusions in the field of the construction technique of Teutonic castles.
